Medicare Part D
Medicare Part D is the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan that can be bought as a standalone plan with Original Medicare coverage, or as an added benefit with a Medicare Advantage plan.
You can enroll in a Part D plan once you have enrolled in Original Medicare.
Part D Coverage
Each Part D plan has a formulary or a list of prescription drugs that it covers. While each formulary differs among each plan, all plans must cover:
- Antidepressants
- Antipsychotic medications
- Anticonvulsive treatments
- Anticancer medications
- Immunosuppressants
- HIV/AIDS treatments
- Unless covered by Part B, Part D covers most vaccines
What Does Part D Not Cover?
Prescriptions that are not covered by Part D include:
- Fertility drugs
- Over-the-counter drugs
- Drugs for hair growth
- Weight loss/gain drugs
